Imagine the freedom of being able to see clearly without glasses or contact lenses.
To wake up in the morning and be able to see the time on the clock radio, to swim, play sport without raindrops on your glasses or pursue a career in the Police Force or the aviation industry.
LASIK and SMILEpro are both modern alternatives to glasses or contact lenses. Both procedures are painless and performed within minutes. Usually, your ability to see without glasses is restored in 24 hours.
Leading the way in corrective laser eye surgery since Dr David Kent brought laser vision corrective eye surgery to the South Island in 1996. Dr Kent has performed over 28000 corrective laser eye surgery procedures more than any other New Zealand eye surgeon. Drs David Kent & Zea Munro and their dedicated team are committed to deliver excellence in corrective laser eye surgery.
Safety and accuracy are also paramount to us, therefore the decision to purchase the Schwind Amaris 1050RS excimer laser. The Amaris delivers maximum precision, provides ground breaking innovations in speed of treatment with an advanced eye tracking system. It is the only excimer laser capable of tracking the eye in 7 dimensions.
Fendalton Eye Clinic specialises in the most advanced and safest techniques available today to correct myopia (short sightedness), hyperopia (long sightedness) and astigmatism. To ensure that you receive the best treatment option for your eyes and lifestyle Fendalton Eye Clinic offers a wide range of corrective laser eye surgery options, such LASIK, SMILEpro and PRK.
Fendalton Eye Clinic uses the safety, precision & accuracy of a Zeiss VisuMax® femtosecond laser to create a flap in the cornea.
Know MoreWith the development of SMILEpro, a minimally invasive and flapless procedure has become available. It has quickly established itself as a gentle treatment option.
Know MoreSurface excimer laser treatments make up about 20% of all excimer laser surgery worldwide.
Know MoreLaser Vision Correction has been available for nearly thirty years. There have been many developments and continuous improvements.
LASIK for precision safety and accuracy with the Zeiss VisuMax® femtosecond laser and the Schwind Amaris 1050RS excimer laser. Safety and accuracy are paramount to us.
Safety, accuracy and precision of the combined technology of the Schwind Amaris 1050RS ground breaking eye tracking system facilitating faster delivery of treatment. The advantage to you as a patient having your laser eye surgery treatment delivered as quickly as possible means that you only need to concentrate on the fixation light for a brief period.
Furthermore, the benefit to your eye is that the corneal tissue is only exposed for a very short time. This prevents the ocular tissue drying out, assisting in accelerating healing and clarity of vision. The Schwind Amaris 1050RS laser systems unique eye tracking system registers 1050 times per second how your eye moves during the treatment, there is no other excimer laser capable of this level of precision. The laser beam can thus always be perfectly positioned. Up to 1050 laser pulses per second.
In addition to horizontal and vertical eye movements, the eye can also rotate, roll, tilt or even move up and down. The Schwind Amaris 1050RS laser systems register all of these movements with an eye tracking system that compensates every movement of the eye up to the seventh dimension.¹
An analogy to explain the advanced 7 dimensional eye tracker is to imagine your eyeball being a buoy in the sea: When the sea is calm, the buoy shifts from the left to the right or forward and backward. In a swell, however, the buoy tilts to the side. Furthermore, a buoy also turns around its anchorage or moves up and down. In the same manner, your eyeball can make linear movements (1st and 2nd dimensions), rolling movements (3rd and 4th dimensions), rotate around its own axis (5th dimension) or move up and down along the z-axis (6th dimension). The 7th dimension considers the time factor and compensates for eye movements that occur during the reaction time of the laser system. That means laser treatment delivered without latency.
The Schwind Amaris laser systems offers you the leading technology for laser eye surgery providing excellence in all important aspects of your treatment – precision, safety and comfort. The Schwind Amaris laser systems groundbreaking innovations have been materialised – such as the ablation with two energy levels or the unique eye tracking system. So far, these features have not been available in any other device.
Many of our patients have asked us, “What if there is a power cut during my laser treatment?” The answer is that we have an uninterruptible power supply ( UPS ) that will take over and supply power to the laser for more than long enough to complete any treatment.
We have used a UPS since installing our first excimer laser in January 1997. We have a SOLA 610 UPS rated at 6000 volt-amps. The laser will run for more than 15 minutes following a power cut, more than enough to complete any procedure.
The SOLA 610 UPS provides on-line pure sine wave technology for perfect mains voltage reproduction and regulation. It means that no matter what happens to the mains voltage including current sags, “brown outs” or a power outage, the excimer laser is provided with continuous pure sine wave alternating current. Sensitive electronic equipment like the Schwind Amaris 1050RS excimer laser works best with clean continuous power.
The Zeiss VisuMax® femtosecond laser also has its own dedicated UPS
For your safety we have invested in a purpose built laser operating theatre. To get the best results from laser eye surgery the laser operating theatre conditions need to be carefully controlled.
Temperature and humidity control are important to achieve consistent rate of removal of corneal tissue (ablation rate). Keeping the air in the theatre clean and free from dust or lint is crucial. Our laser operating theatre has a surgical operating theatre quality air conditioning system.
We have three HEPA filters installed. To ensure thorough filtration of the air entering the laser theatre. HEPA filters are such fine filters that they function to filter out lint and bacteria. Minimising the chance of debris under the LASIK flap or the chance of an infection.
10-12 Pascal within the laser theatre helps prevent unfiltered air from entering the theatre when the door is opened.
Need to be maintained to achieve predictable ablation rates of the cornea.
Our laser theatre has sophisticated ducted air conditioning that uses chilled water to cool the air. It can both dehumidify and humidify the air in entering the laser operating theatre, enabling us to have stable consistent conditions in the laser theatre regardless of the outside temperature and humidity.
Our investment in the highest quality air conditioning system to maintain the best laser operating theatre conditions will increase your chance of the best possible result from your LASIK surgery.
