Business Manager

As the Business Manager at Fendalton Eye Clinic, I am responsible for the well being of the team and ensuring that the clinic’s commitment to delivering outstanding patient care is maintained at the highest standards.

As the Business Manager and a registered optometrist at Fendalton Eye Clinic, my role is to ensure that the clinic’s mission of delivering excellence in patient care is consistently pursued by our team. I am equally committed to supporting the wellbeing of each team member, fostering an environment where everyone shares this ethos. I lead the team, provide strategic direction, and work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement continuous improvements in patient care delivery.

I grew up in Canterbury and graduated with a degree in Optometry from Auckland University in 1991. After completing my studies, I worked as an optometrist in the Eye Department at Auckland Hospital, gaining valuable experience with complex and challenging ophthalmic conditions. In 1992, I moved to the UK, where I became a Member of the British College of Optometrists. During my time in the UK, I worked in various settings, including clinical sessions in the Contact Lens Department at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, which gave me invaluable experience with complex contact lens patients.

In 1994, I was fortuante to have a role at the Medical University of South Carolina in the USA, where I was involved in intraocular lens research projects. During this time I was involved in developing training protocols for ophthalmologists in phacoemulsification techniques, including running Miyake training labs.

The following year, I worked in private practice in Melbourne before returning to Christchurch in 1996, when Dr David Kent and I founded Fendalton Eye Clinic.

Outside of work, I enjoy yoga, walking in the Port Hills, skiing, golf, and keeping up with five adult children.
